We'll Miss You, Kate |
I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Kate Duffy, editorial director at Kensington Publishing. Kate was the very first editor I ever talked to. Actually I talked with her twice. I found her to be straightforward and funny. She read the first story I ever got the nerve to send out. She called me and said she enjoyed the plot and the hero who was hot, but she thought my heroine was TSTL. Naturally, I was crushed. LOL. But then she added that I had managed do something few authors do and that was - I made her to care about my characters.
My next interaction with Kate was as part of the BRAVA novella contest. As a finalist, Kate called all of us. My call came while I was at work. So, I'm trying to appear professional, sound logical while my heart is jump roping and I can't find pen and paper on my crowded desk to save my life. I know I sounded barely literate, but she quickly put me at ease.
I saved her advice and have incorporated it into my subsequent stories.
We'll miss you, Kate. |
